Does my child need tutoring?
The Importance of the Primary Years
The primary years lay the foundation for what is learnt in high school, at the tertiary level and for skills required in the workplace. It is therefore of paramount importance that students master the basic literacy and numeracy skills taught in primary school. Does this mean every student requires additional tutoring? The short answer is no. For some students though, mastering the basic literacy and numeracy skills taught in primary school can be difficult, in part because of an overcrowded curriculum that does not always allow enough time for the revision of concepts. Our modern curriculum has also moved away, to a large extent, from drill and practice. Good writing needs to be technically accurate, with correct use of grammar and punctuation, which require practice and if you want to know your times tables for example, drill and practice is the only way. At Amanda Dixon PhD we combine modern teaching practices with a traditional approach. |
Early Secondary - Years 7 & 8
Students in the early secondary years enrol at Amanda Dixon PhD if they have missed some of the basic skills in English and Mathematics taught in primary school. Any gaps in a student's primary education are addressed in conjunction with work being completed in high school. |
