She has been teaching and tutoring for over twenty years and has taught students from pre-school to high school as well as adults.
Amanda has a Bachelor of Arts degree and a Diploma of Education with First Class Honours. She completed a PhD in Education in 2005, combining her undergraduate interests in psychology and education to research the antecedents and consequences of achievement goals in year 5 students. Amanda has a passion for seeing her students motivated to learn and uses her knowledge of students' achievement motivation to encourage them.
Amanda completed training in the Spalding method of teaching literacy in 2011. She became interested in Spalding when her own children started attending a school that teaches literacy using this approach.
Amanda became passionate about helping students who were struggling with literacy in her Honours year at university, when working with middle primary school students who had not yet learnt to read. From that time onwards she started specialising in reading and writing, developing her own resources to help and also extend students. Amanda has always had a love of both English and Mathematics. Amanda's favourite subject at school was Mathematics, followed by English, especially creative writing. She used to write stories in Infants School that were typed up and displayed in the school library. While at university she also developed a passion for essay writing and loves to help students of all ages develop their writing abilities. She initially started her undergraduate studies in Mathematics, with the aim of becoming a high school Mathematics teacher. Her love of writing as well as the creative arts, especially dance, drama and music, saw her change to primary teaching. She still retains her love of Mathematics.
