Fluent Readers

Fluent readers are able to decode words with very little thought, as they are familiar with the phonograms and rules for how to use them. At this stage they are able to read texts with increasing difficulty, with the focus being on more comprehension and reading for a particular purpose. They benefit from revising the spelling rules and conventions of writing, including the use of capital letters and punctuation, but are ready to expand their knowledge of sentence structure and start using their reading experiences to model and inspire them to greater sophistication in their writing.
