RW 6: Single Letters More Than One Sound
So far we have learnt that each letter makes a sound. We have also learnt these sounds may be blended together in words like skip and tent. It is now time to look at the letters that make more than one sound. All of the vowels a e i o u and four of the consonants c g s y make more than one sound. We start by looking at the two most common sounds made by the vowels.
THE VOWEL SOUNDS
The most common sounds made by the vowels are their short sounds and their names.
Practice working out which sounds the vowels are making by downloading our Short and Long Vowel Sounds worksheet or trying our quiz below. Suitable for Kindy level +.
