At Amanda Dixon PhD, students work on a variety of different reading comprehension skills, as needed:

• basic reading strategies such as identifying the main idea, word meanings, predicting, comparing and contrasting, cause and effect, sequencing, inferring, drawing conclusions and so on.  
• comprehension practice for the OC and selective schools tests, including how to complete cloze questions and identifying techniques and their effect etc in the linked extracts.
• analytical comprehension for high school English.

Common mistakes in comprehension arise from not knowing the vocabulary or misreading or not knowing the 'w' words. Beginning readers, start with the I Read Write Program.
